Platform 1 are delighted to have been awarded a Silver Award in the restaurant category in the Taste of the West Hospitality & Retail awards 2020/2021.
The team at Platform 1 have worked tirelessly over the past 18 months to introduce and perfect a fantastic new menu concentrating on locally sourced seafood. Head Chef Hannah Black grew up in Brixham with a trawlerman Dad and her affinity with the sea and seafood is evident in the menu she has created. The judges commented: “The hot seafood platter main course was superb and the choice of seafood in the platter was excellent, for example the use of monkfish as scampi bites was excellent.”
According to Hannah: “The endless amount of hours the team has put into developing the new menu during a time when we didn’t know whether we were coming or going because of COVID, as well as us being a first time entry, all means that I am so very pleased to receive this award.”
The judges commended the use of local fish from Brixham in addition to local wines on the menu from Sharpham and Lyme Bay. They also commented favourably on how friendly and welcoming the staff were on arrival as well as throughout the meal. They were praised for their knowledge with regards to the dishes on the menu and for offering a swift and efficient service. The atmosphere was described as pleasant and the seating comfortable.
After such difficult times in the hospitality industry, it is a fantastic boost for the team to hear such positive comments and to receive recognition for all the hard work involved in turning around this iconic venue on the seafront in Dartmouth into an award-winning seafood restaurant.
