Helping to spread some seasonal cheer, a popular Cornish restaurant is launching a new Christmas menu to offer boxed, restaurant quality, festive feasts to enjoy at home – while also helping to feed Cornwall’s poorest communities. The team at The Rockpool, the beachside restaurant beautifully positioned between the dunes of Gwithian and Godrevy, has partnered with their neighbours at Camborne, Pool & Redruth (CPR) Foodbank – helping to feed the community this Christmas.
Last year the CPR Foodbank fed approximately 300 families 1,800 Christmas dinners – a figure likely to increase to over 2,000 this December. For every meal sold from The Rockpool’s new festive feast menu, their donation will enable the CPR Foodbank to provide five meals to the most in need Cornish families.
Designed by The Rockpool’s general manager and head chef Ryan Venning and his team, the new at-home festive feast boxes are a taste of Christmas by the coast – and offer the gift that is Christmas being catered, because let’s face it…we all deserve a treat to end 2020 on!
The new Christmas feasts offer a hassle-free solution and freedom from the responsibility and time commitment of cooking from scratch. Expect delicious dishes, created using freshly prepared seasonal ingredients, with all the trimmings; all pre-cooked and ready to heat on the big day – perfect for enthusiastic home cooks, high-class hosts and busy families.
Christmas feast boxes are priced at £18pp for a main course or £32pp for a decadent three-course feast with a choice of roast turkey breast and cranberry sauce, mustard rubbed prime whole beef sirloin with red wine jus or a cranberry and pistachio nut roast with braised onion gravy. Dishes are accompanied by nine delicious sides including Cornish Hog’s Pudding, crispy Brussel sprouts with chestnuts and maple syrup, lightly spiced braised red cabbage, leek & celeriac mash and Wheal Rose pigs in blankets wrapped in streaky bacon.
Desert is a choice of a mini-Christmas pudding with brandy sauce or vanilla custard, spiced apple and ginger cake with pecan nut crumble and vanilla yoghurt or three Cornish cheeses (St Endellion Brie, Helford Blue and Cornish Yarg) with crackers and spiced chutney – plus a complimentary mince pie for each person dining. Children’s meals are available from £9 – £16pp. Wine and bubbles is also possible as an optional add-on.
The Rockpool is donating produce to the CPR Foodbank, partly funded from sales of the new Christmas feast boxes, to help them take care of Cornwall’s poorest communities – they’re also offering a Christmas dinner delivery service for the most vulnerable customers in the local area who’d like to order their Christmas dinner but are shielding or unable to collect.
Don Gardner, who runs the CPR Foodbank, says: “It’s wonderful to have been approached by The Rockpool and we’re so pleased to have them as a friend of the CPR Foodbank. This time of the year is especially challenging for so many Cornish families. Their support means we can focus on what we do best – helping those in need”.
Meals will be packaged using sustainable Vegware, complete with simple instructions, ready for easy plating on the big day. Pre-orders are essential and must be received by December 20th, ahead of collection from The Rockpool on December 24th.
