Salcombe Brewery co. Launches two new limited-edition barrel aged porters

Salcombe Brewery Co. just announced the launch of two new limited edition barrel aged porters (750ml, 6.2% ABV ), created by ageing their award-winning Island Street Porter in a Speyside whisky barrel and a Heaven Hill bourbon barrel.

Hand-bottled and labelled and available in presentation sets from November, these will make a sought after Christmas gift. They can be ordered online for nationwide delivery or purchased directly from the brewery (RRP £19.99).

Brewer Sam Beaman comments: “Our Island Street Porter has been a huge hit since its launch two years ago and has gained a number of prestigious accolades. Inspired by its popularity, we wanted to build on its strengths and see if we could create a very special version as a limited edition gift.”

Sam continues: “We aged the porter in wooden barrels for six months to allow the flavours to evolve. The barrels had previously contained either Speyside Whisky or Heaven Hill bourbon and we were thrilled with the results. The process created beers with the characteristic undertones of our Island Street Porter of chocolate and dark cherry but with a far greater depth and complexity of flavour. And we are not the only ones who are impressed. Our Speyside Whisky barrel aged porter has already won Gold in its category both regionally and nationally at the SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers) digital awards 2020.”

Salcombe Brewery’s new Speyside Whisky barrel aged porter (ABV 6.2%) has an almost jam like sweetness that is complimented by a hint of vanilla. This sweetness is balanced against the peaty notes from the whisky, culminating with a full-bodied chocolaty finish.

The Heaven Hill Bourbon barrel aged porter (ABV 6.2%) has a distinctive vanilla character from the oak that adds a rich creamy note, reminiscent of clotted cream. This smooth silky mouthfeel gives way to a gentle smokey character and a refreshing dry finish.

The limited edition gift boxed barrel aged porters will make the perfect gift for any beer connoisseur and are a great addition to the brewery’s range of Christmas gifts which include their festive ale, Christmas Tide, a luxurious beer hamper and gift packs of their popular craft beers. All gifts are available for nationwide delivery from www.salcombebrewery.com.
