Plans have been submitted for the redevelopment of Crown Walk in the centre of Taunton.
Altitude Asset Management said the existing High Street frontage would be retained, with Crown Walk replaced with about 7,750 sq ft of new retail and 62 flats on the upper floors. These flats will consist of 22 one-bedroom, 34 two-bedroom and six three-bedroom apartments.
The walkway from the High Street to the Crescent Car Park will be open to the air and lined by the retail units that have been designed for small and independent businesses.
Tom Vantreen, director at Altitude Asset Management, said: “We are delighted to be submitting our plans for Crown Walk, having had detailed conversations about the future of the site with the council over a number of years.
“The design has focused on creating a scheme that embraces the historic context of the town centre whilst creating high quality retail and residential accommodation. The new open walkway will create a modern and attractive entrance to the town centre from one of the major central car parks and will assist, we hope, in the revitalisation to the wider area.”
He added: “In such an uncertain time, it’s great to be able to invest in a fantastic town like Taunton. We look forward to delivering a high-quality scheme that will bring people and jobs to bolster the great offering in Taunton town centre.“
